The facemask has become synonymous with safety during the Covid-19 pandemic. And while masks have saved lives, their widespread use has had a consequence: many wind up as litter. The SeaMask project seeks to bring together teams of designers and material developers who will turn to Nordic design traditions to come up with the next generation of masks. The idea is to replace disposable masks with masks made of environmentally friendly materials. To accomplish this, the masks will be made of fish skin and will incorporate technologies that protect the wearer from viral infection.
