When NORA launched its first marine cluster initiative back in 2012, there were almost no formal clusters in the North Atlantic region. The challenge was not just building individual clusters, but creating an interconnected alliance that could share knowledge, talent and market access across borders.
Over a decade later, the North Atlantic Ocean Cluster Alliance has grown into a thriving network spanning Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Greenland and Coastal Norway. Member clusters focus on aquaculture, ocean technology, seafood processing and maritime services — sectors that define the economic identity of the region.
In 2025, the alliance facilitated its largest ever cross-border knowledge exchange programme, connecting cluster members with international experts and opening new pathways for SME collaboration in blue biotechnology and sustainable fishing practices.
